The Dog in Oils
Cotton & Pepper
14" x 18"
Oil on Stretched Canvas
Private Collection
In addition to portraits of horses, custom portraits of dogs are also available.
The variety in size, shape, hair coat and color make painting dogs a never end challenge and welcome addition to paintings of horses.

As with the majority of portraits, this portrait was painted on stretched canvas using the best quality paints available.
The goal with every portrait and painting is not only to create a work of art you will be proud to display for years, but an heirloom. The best way to achieve that is by using the best materials and techniques with every painting. Top quality paints on top quality canvas using proven techniques are all part of the process.

The best portraits are a direct result of the best reference photographs. A custom designed portrait of your dog can be created from your own photographs, as was the case with "Cotton & Pepper", or I will be happy to meet with you and your dog to take photographs and to observe your dog. There is a difference in the resulting portrait when I can meet the subject of a painting. I do not know how it happens, but general and casual observations do make their way into a portrait.
If you are uncertain about whether or not your personal photographs will be suitable, I will be happy to review them at no charge.

"Cotton & Pepper" was also framed before delivery. Framing is not included in the price of portraits, but custom framing is also available upon request.
If you decide to have your dog's portrait framed, a frame will be hand selected for your portrait. I do not mail order frames for custom orders. Instead, each painting is taken to a frame shop and photographed with three to five different selections. You will then have the opportunity to select the frame that best suits your tastes. The end result will be a painting that comes out the boxed ready to hang!
Below is a detail of the frame corner.
